Django Unchained is a western movie written and directed by Quentin Tarantino, based on the African American Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Vengeance. The Movie has caused a lot of controversy among Black activists, due to some action figures produced by the National Entertainment Collectibles Association, that the activists say are a mockery of slavery. The movie has already been nominated five times including Best Picture.

The storyline is of a slave-turned-bounty hunter who sets out to rescue his wife from a brutal Mississippi plantation owner with the help of his mentor.

Rev Al Sharpton’s National Action Network is also calling for a boycott of the action figures. “Selling this doll is highly offensive to our ancestors and the African-American community.”

Najee Ali, director of the Los Angeles Civil Rights Organisation Project Islamic Hope, said the toys are “a slap in the face of our ancestors.”

Spike Lee tweeted his disgust:
“American Slavery Was Not A Sergio Leone Spaghetti Western. It Was A Holocaust. My Ancestors Are Slaves. Stolen From Africa. I Will Honor Them.”

The movie is full of satire and savagery and this can be a bit tough for African Americans and their Slave History.

The film stars include: Jamie Foxx, as Django, Christoph Waltz, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kerry Washington, Samuel L. Jackson, Walton Goggins among others.

The Movie hit theaters in the U. S. on December 25th. 2012.
